Closed defence and establishing restrictions on thesis publication
The Institute of Computer Science applies an open-access policy to Master's theses, except in special cases where a thesis is declared confidential due to commercial reasons.
If making the thesis public isn't possible due to business secrets or some other circumstance then the author may apply for establishing restrictions on the publishing of graduation thesis and/or declaring defence private. The restrictions shall be established by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs by his/her directive.
The procedure is as follows:
1) author must submit the application (signed also by the supervisor) with a confirmation letter from the owner of the intellectual property involved at least 3 workdays before thesis submission deadline to the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the Dean's Office (Vanemuise St 46 room 208, or e-mail: kairi.terreping [ät] ut.ee).
2) author submits only general information to thesis database latest by thesis submission deadline:
- title page
- information sheet (incl abstract in Estonian and English, CERCS code, keywords)
- license
3) pdf-file of the whole thesis should be sent directly to ulle.holm [ät] ut.ee. The file will be used in the defence process, it is necessary for the members of the committee. It will not be available outside the defence process.
NB: Upon publishing the graduation thesis as a scientific article in the future the restrictions for publication are set for 3 years maximum.
Upon establishing the restrictions due to other reasons (trade secret, etc) the corresponding time period is 5 years and it is possible to reapply.
