Internet of Things lab
In March 2016 we opened an Internet of Things lab in collaboration with Telia. The lab is made up of smart home and smart office environments. It is located in the Delta Centre. The equipment in the lab will be used mainly by researchers in the mobile and cloud computing laboratory to create new groundbreaking smart solutions. Students can also to projects or even their degree theses under the supervision of the researchers working with the IoT lab. In case of research related enquiries or ideas, please contact representatives of the mobile and cloud computing group: Associate Professor in Distributed Systems satish.srirama [ät] ut.ee (Satish Srirama) or student jaks [ät] ut.ee (Jakob Mass).
Many everyday appliances have the potential to connect to the web and to each other. The core of this system is the Internet Protocol (IP), which enables physical devices to exchange data and connect over the net, thus forming the Internet of Things. Research work done in this field allows to develop and raise the quality of all kinds of different services and environments from agriculture and transportation to healthcare and education.
The smart office environment focuses on sustainability and effective energy use as well as smart meeting solutions.
The smart home environment also focuses on sustainability and reasonable use of resources - for example optimizing the utilization of air conditioning, heating, ventilation. Additionally the smart home also aims to develop the use of movement sensors, object positioning, and remote control of the smart home.
