Research

More than half of the PhD theses written in Estonia are defended at the University of Tartu (UT). More than half of the country's research publications are authored by UT academics, and the university manages work-intensive research projects and topics in every important research area. Read more about research at UT.

Research at the Institute of Computer Science is structured into six research groups:

* Bioinformatics, Algorithms and Data Mining led by Prof. Jaak Vilo
* Cryptography, led by Prof. Dominique Unruh
* Distributed Systems, led by Prof. Eero Vainikko
* Language Technology, led by Prof. Mare Koit
* Programming Language Semantics, led by Prof. Varmo Vene

* Software Engineering, led by Prof. Marlon Dumas

High-level research is also conducted by the university's interdisciplinary centres of excellence. UT Institute of Computer Science research teams participate as partners in the Centre of Excellence in Computer Science (at the Tallinn University of Technology), lead by Tarmo Uustalu.
